The Path to Real Transformation

Today is my birthday and it got me thinking; I am another year older.  In some ways, I thought by now I would have figured everything out.  When I was young, I thought that by now I would be living the American dream and getting the best out of life.  Well, I must admit, I am still a work in progress.  Now don’t get me wrong, for me life is wonderful; I have a great wife that loves me like no other, it is fascinating to see my children grow and become incredible people and as far as vocations go, I can’t imagine doing anything else in life.  But with that said, I have to recognize that the Lord is still working on me.  I still have much to learn.  My faith needs to grow.  My walk must develop.  My life has to change.  When another birthday comes around I want to be a different person.

I wonder how many times we have heard those words before, “Things need to change.  Things need to be different.”

We look at our country and we see that there are many problems in our land.  We are a nation at war.  Terrorists continue to plot America’s demise.  Washington remains in gridlock and in a bitter power struggle.  The current administration seems determined to lead us down a socialist path.  And freedom and prosperity which once characterized our nation is slowly eroding away.  Things need to change.  Things need to be different.Take quick look at our society.  There is crime in our streets, there is prostitution on our street corners, there is gambling on our rivers, there is pornography on our computers, there is abortion in our hospitals but there is no prayer in our schools.  Things need to change.  Things need to be different.   The struggles of today have taken its toll on the family.  Parents are overworked and children are often overburdened.  Fathers are overloaded in their job, mothers are overwhelmed in their marriage and children are overlooked in their home.  Things need to change.  Things need to be different.

Albert Einstein helped us define insanity.   He said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.  In other words, if we do what we always do, we will get what we always get. The Bible says it this way,   Gal 6:7  …whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.   This is both a physical and spiritual law.  For example, if we plant an apple tree, we would expect at some point apples.  How foolish would it be for us to expect oranges.

Bottom line, if things need to change and things need to be different, then we need to change, we need to be different.  If we continue to do what we always do, we will continue to get what we always have gotten.  We need to change what we do by changing fundamentally who we are.  We need real transformation!  I believe that we can find the path to transformation.

The Bible is not silent on real life transformation.  The path is not obscurely hidden out of sight, rather the path to a transformed life is visible and clearly within our grasp.  We do not have to settle for the status quo.  We do not have to be the victims of circumstances that are thrust upon us and beyond our control.  We can change.  Our life can be different.  We can be transformed.  (Romans 12:1-2)
